German ambassador visited the Warsaw Rising Museum. Mularczyk asks him about “reflections on the need for accountability”

German Ambassador Miguel Berger paid a visit to the Warsaw Rising Museum and later wrote on X that he was moved by it. “Did the impressions from your moving visit to the Warsaw Rising Museum also lead you to reflect on the necessity of Germany taking responsibility for the crimes and destruction committed at that time?” wrote on X Arkadiusz Mularczyk, a Law and Justice (PiS) MP, who headed the team that prepared the report on losses caused by German aggression in 1939.

Moved, but without reflection

“I am deeply moved by my visit to the Warsaw Rising Museum. Thank you for the conversation and the moving tour that showed the horrifying scale of German crimes and destruction,” said Ambassador Miguel Berger. It was precisely to this visit that the Law and Justice MP referred. “Dear Ambassador, did the impressions from your moving visit to the Warsaw Rising Museum also lead you to reflect on the necessity of Germany taking responsibility for the crimes and destruction committed at that time?” provocatively wrote Arkadiusz Mularczyk.

The report under his leadership was published on September 1, 2022, and constitutes a thorough study of Poland’s wartime losses. Polish losses were estimated at 6.2 trillion zlotys (approx. 1.5 trillion dollars). The amount covers material losses such as destroyed cities and infrastructure, human losses (5.2 million victims), as well as looted cultural property. Germany rejects any talks about reparations and pretends there is no problem. Donald Tusk has also announced that he will not pursue them.
