Giertych Defeated by His Own Post. Will the PKW Investigate Votes Given to Gawłowski?

A motion will be submitted to the National Electoral Commission (PKW) requesting an investigation into whether the signatures collected by Mr. Gawłowski were knowingly given in his support, announced Dariusz Matecki on social media platform X. This development follows Saturday’s revelations by Telewizja Republika and the publication of Tusk’s recordings.

Telewizja Republika disclosed “Tusk’s tapes,” which contain a recorded conversation from 2019 between Roman Giertych and Donald Tusk, discussing the transfer of collected signatures in support of Stanisław Gawłowski. Earlier, Gawłowski had reportedly been “left stranded” by Grzegorz Schetyna, then-leader of the Civic Platform (Platforma Obywatelska).

Roman Giertych quickly responded to the revelations, threatening legal consequences for the broadcaster and journalists responsible for publicizing the conversation, while asserting he had nothing to hide.

However, Dariusz Matecki from Law and Justice (Prawo i Sprawiedliwość) sees it differently. He announced on platform X that he will submit an appropriate motion to the PKW.

“[…] to investigate whether the signatures collected by Mr. Gawłowski were knowingly given by those individuals in his support. There is a procedure for this. It suffices to check with 100 randomly selected individuals,” Matecki noted in his post.

Matecki pointed out a similar move executed by Giertych himself back in 2020.

“He who lives by the sword…” – commented Marcin Warchoł, former deputy minister of justice.

The transfer of signatures to Gawłowski appears to be a particularly charged topic for politicians within the ruling coalition.
