“We will know how many drones fell once they are all found” – this is how Donald Tusk, the head of the government, answered a question about the exact number of drones that fell in Poland on September 10. Specifics? As it turns out – none, even though several days have passed.
On the night of September 9-10, the Operational Command of the Branches of the Armed Forces (DORSZ) reported that during the Russian Federation’s attack on Ukraine, Polish airspace was repeatedly violated by drones. As emphasized, “it was an act of aggression that created a real threat to the safety of our citizens.” By order of the Operational Commander of the Armed Forces, defensive procedures were immediately activated.
The matter resonated widely around the world. However – despite several days having passed, there are still no concrete findings, even regarding the number of objects.
Poles in panic. Tusk gives no clear answer
Today in Sierakowice, a press conference was held with the participation of the head of the government – Donald Tusk. At one point, the Prime Minister was asked specifically about that night. The answer, however, was not satisfying. Nor… considering the seriousness of the situation – reassuring. “We will know how many drones fell once they are all found. I understand the impatience evident in these questions. But it is not the case that the Russians informed us exactly how many drones entered our airspace. As you know, the identification and search for drones is ongoing.”
But that was not all. He went on to offer an even “more interesting” perspective:
“Let us also remember that these are civilian drones, which are also fairly commonly used here in Poland. In the past few days, we have already had two cases where flying objects were found – meaning they were already on the ground – and it turned out they were not part of Russian aggression. We try to be accurate and not cause panic. We will inform about any further such discoveries. At this moment, there is no reason to believe that any of these findings pose a threat.”
Tusk concluded the topic with the words: “So far, not a single case of an armed drone has been identified that could explode or otherwise harm residents or their property. We are very focused on this.”
