Hurkacz Falls Short Again: Sixth Second-Round Exit at US Open

Hubert Hurkacz’s quest to advance past the second round at the US Open ended in disappointment, as the Polish tennis star was defeated by Australia’s Jordan Thompson in straight sets, 6-7, 1-6, 5-7. Despite a strong start, Hurkacz was unable to maintain his early momentum, marking his sixth exit at this stage of the tournament.

The match initially looked promising for Hurkacz, who quickly took a 5-2 lead in the first set, dominating his service games and even securing a break. However, Thompson staged a comeback, levelling the score and ultimately taking the set in a decisive tiebreak. This shift in momentum proved critical as Thompson continued to control the match.

Throughout the second set, Thompson capitalized on Hurkacz’s faltering performance, breaking his serve twice and allowing the Pole just one game. Although Hurkacz showed signs of a potential comeback in the third set, he failed to convert crucial breakpoints, allowing Thompson to close out the match.
