President Andrzej Duda and his wife, Agata Kornhauser-Duda, will attend the Mass inaugurating the pontificate of Pope Leo XIV on May 18.
Cardinal Robert Prevost, who took the name Leo XIV, was elected during the conclave on May 8.
The Prefecture of the Papal Household announced that the solemn inauguration of the pontificate is scheduled for May 18 in St. Peter’s Square, with the participation of heads of state and official delegations. On May 20, a ceremony will be held for the Bishop of Rome to take possession of the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls. The new pope’s first general audience is planned for May 21.
Roman authorities estimate that around 250,000 people will attend the inauguration of the pontificate.
