Kaczyński: Nawrocki’s Presidency Means No Surrender of Polish Sovereignty

Jarosław Kaczyński visited Opole yesterday. During a meeting with supporters of the Law and Justice (PiS) party, he spoke, among other things, about the swearing-in of Karol Nawrocki, which, according to him, will take place. He also addressed the right-wing candidate’s victory and the programmatic conventions scheduled for the autumn.

On Nawrocki’s Swearing-In: “The Devil Never Sleeps”

At the beginning of his speech, Jarosław Kaczyński referred to the swearing-in of Karol Nawrocki as President of the Republic of Poland, scheduled for Wednesday. He stated that the ceremony would indeed occur, although an unscheduled meeting of the National Electoral Commission is to be held tomorrow.

“Let us remember one thing, the devil never sleeps. And when it comes to Civic Platform, there he certainly doesn’t sleep. (…) However, I believe the swearing-in will happen, and that we will have a president who is firm and courageous,” said the PiS leader.

He added that he is convinced the opponents of the right believed Karol Nawrocki would have to back down after such attacks, and that right-wing circles would collapse. Kaczyński also stated that those hostile to Nawrocki had hoped to convince some voters that the articles attacking him were truthful, but that did not happen.

The President Will Not Ratify a Harmful European Treaty

“This victory has interrupted a certain process, the end goal of which was a new European treaty, one that would have stripped us of our sovereignty. We know one thing, this President will not ratify it. And that is the reason this victory provoked so much fury in Poland and so much concern in Germany,” the former Prime Minister explained.

Independence Cannot Be an Episode

Kaczyński made it clear to those gathered in Opole that right-wing supporters cannot be satisfied with brief or episodic independence. He explained that all generations must work to prevent such outcomes.

“Poland must remain a sovereign state. Today, we have hope for that. Law and Justice is undertaking preparatory actions to fully understand what has happened in Poland. These are significant programmatic preparations. At the end of October, the first major program convention will take place. Poles should begin to talk about the past so that they can forge a new vision of the future, because Poland must change in many respects. At the foundation of this change must be a new Constitution. We must create a Constitution that cannot be overturned with a flick of the finger. Tusk and his government have chosen a path of escalating conflict. They will not intimidate us. The efforts of Żurek and Kierwiński will be Sisyphean,”

said the PiS leader.
