Agnieszka Romaszewska-Guzy, the former head of Belsat TV, was dismissed from the station following the formation of the new government coalition on December 13. Believing her dismissal to be unjust, she has filed lawsuits against Telewizja Polska (TVP), which are set to begin this week.
One Case Likely to Be Dropped
According to press.pl, the first lawsuit concerns a termination notice delivered to Romaszewska-Guzy on March 12, 2024. The second case involves her subsequent dismissal for disciplinary reasons on March 18, 2024.
The first hearing is scheduled for April 16, though it is likely to be dismissed immediately. The reason: the termination notice never formally took effect, as she was ultimately fired for disciplinary reasons.
The hearing related to her disciplinary dismissal is set to take place on April 18.
The initial termination of her employment was justified on the grounds of “failing to properly safeguard the employer’s interests and reputation; refusing to carry out tasks assigned by the employer aimed at adjusting Belsat’s operations to available state budget funds; and undermining decisions made by the employer.”
Questionable Disciplinary Action
In a public statement, TVP explained that the changes stemmed from ongoing work on a new model for its international channels, which are financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “The plans involve synergy, utilization, and development of the achievements of each channel,” press.pl reports.
As for the disciplinary dismissal, TVP cited a violation of fundamental employee duties, specifically the unauthorized copying of several hundred files from company equipment without the employer’s knowledge.
Romaszewska-Guzy has launched a crowdfunding campaign to cover her legal expenses. On the platform Zrzutka.pl, she has raised over PLN 15,700 out of a planned PLN 19,000, supported by more than 170 donors.
For the past few weeks, Agnieszka Romaszewska-Guzy has been serving as the editor-in-chief of Fronda.pl.
