A significant portion of the German capital’s residents were left in the dark on Saturday. As it turned out, those responsible for the power outage in Berlin are – left-wing extremists.
“This was a deliberate attack, for which left-wing extremists are responsible,” said the mayor of the German capital, Kai Wegner. Electricity is gradually being restored to households.
More than 45,000 German households without power
On Saturday, following a fire in an installation on one of Berlin’s bridges, more than 45,000 households were cut off from electricity. By Sunday, power had been restored to around 7,000 homes. In the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district, however, approximately 38,000 households and more than 2,000 business customers remain without power.
Repairs are expected to continue until Thursday, when all those affected are to regain access to electricity. Two operations are underway simultaneously – laying new cables on the bridge and providing temporary power supplies to those affected.
A left-wing attack. “Unacceptable”
Berlin authorities confirmed the authenticity of a statement in which left-wing extremist circles admitted responsibility for causing the outage. – This is unacceptable. Once again, left-wing extremists are attacking our power grid and thereby putting human lives at risk – Wegner said. According to the services, this is a similar incident to one in September, when radicals also caused a failure. Thick high-voltage cables were most likely damaged as a result of explosive charges placed directly beneath them.
At the same time, there was no shortage of criticism directed at Berlin’s authorities. Residents accused the mayor of “not being present all day” and “governing from a home office.” It was pointed out that snowfall and sub-zero temperatures are forecast, which, in the absence of electricity, poses a real threat to health.
For years, accommodation was organized for millions of immigrants. Here, however, there is silence. Neither state nor federal politicians are taking any serious action. Instead of assistance, the police offer absurd advice: use flashlights. Looting is predictable. Dark, partially abandoned buildings stand for days on end, while the state fails to provide effective protection of private property.
