Magda Gessler’s Iconic ‘U Fukiera’ Lands Nearly Half a Million in Recovery Funds — Even the TVN Star’s Restaurant Gets a Boost

Hundreds of thousands of zlotys in support from the National Recovery Plan have also gone to “U Fukiera,” one of the most famous restaurants in Warsaw, run by restaurateur Magda Gessler. Has even such a renowned venue fallen on hard times—or did the grant flow in the spirit of the golden rule: “If they’re giving, take it”?

Friday was marked by reports of unusual investments chosen for funding by Donald Tusk’s government under the National Recovery Plan. We have already written about hundreds of thousands of zlotys allocated to yachts, private spas, expansions of private restaurants, and even a swingers’ club. Some of the huge grants went directly to close family members of Civic Platform and Poland 2050 politicians.

One particular case of support escaped public attention. The owners of “U Fukiera” restaurant submitted the necessary paperwork under the HoReCa sector support program.

“The expansion of the operations of the ‘U Fukiera’ restaurant through the introduction of catering services in Region 2, i.e., the Mazowieckie, Podlaskie, and Warmińsko-Mazurskie provinces” — reads the project description.

The grant amounted to 477,900 zlotys.

“U Fukiera” is the oldest restaurant in Warsaw, managed for years by restaurateur Magda Gessler.

“‘U Fukiera’ restaurant today is a living painting, created by Magda Gessler. Here, one is captivated by a harmoniously defined form in which taste, aroma, color, and sound are as integral as the interior décor. This is a place that not only invites you to look at it as a work of art, but subtly encourages you to take part in the spectacle it creates together with its guests,” the website description reads.
