Sayings about March often refer to spring. They also have a lot to do with working in the fields, predicting summer weather, and bountiful harvests. There are many ways to express March in every language.

    1. March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb

This saying states for ‘W marcu jak w garncu‘ which literally means ‘in March like in a pot’ in Polish. Similarly to the English idiom, it reflects the weather in March that is constantly changing and unpredictable. March is a month that connects winter and spring. One day it can snow and the next day the sun will shine. It may also be windy at the same time. Just as different ingredients and different temperatures mix in a pot, all the seasons mix in March. It’s just a month of weather surprises!

    2. March grass never did good.

This saying can reflect the Polish ‘Marzec zielony – niedobre plony.’, which states for ‘green March – bad harvest.’ In the past, people coined many idioms connected to the changing weather to express their feelings about it. However,  in earlier times the weather meant much more, for example because of harvesting.

    3. Od dnia dwudziestego marca zagrzewa słońce nawet starca.,

which means ‘From the twentieth of March, the sun warms even an old man.’

    4. Słońce marcowe, owocom niezdrowe.,

that is ‘March sun is not healthy for fruits.’

    5. Suchy marzec, mokry maj, będzie żytko niby gaj.,

which literally states for ‘Dry March, wet May, there will be rye like a grove’.
