Politicians from Law and Justice (PiS) will submit a notification to the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau in connection with the actions of the December 13 coalition government regarding the SAFE loan. “Personal ties and decisions made at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister suggest that irregularities may occur. The issue related to the SAFE program should be covered by an anti-corruption shield and everything should be clarified and transparent,” said MEP Jacek Ozdoba.
Massive Controversy Over the SAFE Loan
From the SAFE loan pool, four state-owned companies of the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ) are to receive approximately €800 million for the production of 155 mm ammunition. This is more than twice less than the €2.3 billion earmarked for a private company owned by Paweł Poncyljusz from Civic Coalition (KO), which has no production capacity or license to manufacture ammunition – unlike PGZ’s facilities.
According to findings by Niezalezna.pl, the government lobbied for Polska Amunicja to be placed on the list of SAFE beneficiaries. After privatization in 2024, the company reported a loss of PLN 5.4 million, planning to cover it “from future profits.”
Law and Justice (PiS) MPs to Notify the CBA
Politicians from Law and Justice (PiS) commented on the portal’s findings today during a press conference.
“Decisions are being made at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of National Defence that send chills down the spine. We are learning that Polska Amunicja is to be on the list of companies receiving SAFE funding. We are dealing with a company that was under State Treasury control during the PiS government. Donald Tusk comes in and they sell off the shares of this company, as a result of which the State Treasury no longer controls it. Over €2 billion is to go to this company, which in 2024 employed seven people and recorded a loss. It has no ammunition factory. The head of this company is an active KO politician, Paweł Poncyljusz,” stated MEP Tobiasz Bocheński.
He emphasized that Law and Justice (PiS) “does not agree to a situation in which the SAFE program would become KPO 2.0, because we have conditionality and a lack of decision-making on the part of the Polish government.”
“Today we are submitting a notification to the CBA to extend an anti-corruption shield over all government actions related to the company Polska Amunicja,” he announced.
MEP Jacek Ozdoba indicated that the motion to the CBA concerns “initiating an explanatory procedure so that, in the name of the public interest, everything is transparent.”
“Personal ties and decisions made at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister suggest that irregularities may occur. The issue related to the SAFE program should be covered by an anti-corruption shield and everything should be clarified and transparent. We hope that officers will be able to make decisions independently, rather than under political pressure. That is why we are submitting a letter to the head of the CBA, and I hope that the initiated procedure will clarify all the circumstances that have been revealed thanks to the media,” he concluded.
