Matecki Summarized Two Years of Speaker Hołownia: “He Played a Poor Role in Donald Tusk’s Game”

During Friday’s session of the Sejm, Speaker Szymon Hołownia decided to bid farewell to the deputies – he will soon resign from his post. MP Dariusz Matecki (Law and Justice Party, PiS) sharply summarized the two years of the Polska 2050 Party leader’s tenure in the Sejm, saying, “He did not understand the role of the Speaker.”

“Let’s summarize two years of Szymon Hołownia,” began MP Dariusz Matecki in his statement. He said, “Today, for the last time, he played his role as Speaker of the Polish Sejm. He sent the Marshal’s Guard against opposition MPs so that they were physically attacked. He did not recognize the rulings of the Constitutional Tribunal and the Supreme Court. As Speaker, he should have been the Speaker of all MPs, yet he acted in a manner that was extremely discriminatory toward the opposition. To this day, the largest parliamentary club in the Polish Sejm does not have its own Deputy Speaker – for the first time since 1989. He allowed the illegal Pegasus Commission to operate, thereby exposing its members to future criminal liability, including for unlawful detentions. For two years, he has provided – and continues to provide – a majority for a criminal government that is devastating Poland in every sphere: from education and culture, through the economy and security, to healthcare and environmental protection, which his party has turned into a haven for leftist NGOs and lobbyists,” said the PiS MP.

Matecki claimed that Szymon Hołownia “did not understand the role of the Speaker.”

“With childish behavior, he tried to turn the Sejm into a TVN-style show. He played a poor role in Donald Tusk’s game. And today’s decision – the consent to arrest Minister Ziobro, a man who fought against the mafias. Mr. Hołownia, this is a disgrace,” said the opposition MP.

“But the most tragic part is that the next Speaker from this coalition will be even worse. At the next session, you want to make the second-highest official in the state an old communist with a PZPR membership card. An even greater disgrace,” Matecki concluded.

On November 13, Speaker of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia (Polska 2050 Party) is expected to submit his resignation. This fulfills the coalition agreement stipulating that, in the second half of the parliamentary term, he will be replaced by Włodzimierz Czarzasty from the New Left (Nowa Lewica). The change in the Speaker’s position is expected to take place during the next Sejm session, which begins on November 19.
