“I see no reason to vote for Rafał Trzaskowski,” said Sławomir Mentzen during a livestream on his YouTube channel. The Confederation candidate was summarizing his conversations with Rafał Trzaskowski and Karol Nawrocki.
In the first part, Mentzen outlined, point by point, his discussions with Karol Nawrocki and Rafał Trzaskowski (Civic Platform). He reminded viewers that Nawrocki had signed the “Toruń Declaration,” which, according to Mentzen, “should completely settle the question of voting” for those who agree with its contents.
Mentzen also commented that Nawrocki’s life story “is a great cinematic tale in the American style.” “It’s the kind of story that could’ve made a great film—one we haven’t seen, but could have,” he said, criticizing the civic candidate’s campaign team for failing to effectively “sell” Nawrocki’s compelling personal story, which allowed Trzaskowski’s team to attack him.
His evaluation of Rafał Trzaskowski was far less favorable. Mentzen pointed out inconsistencies in Trzaskowski’s statements and political record, as well as the broader history of his party. He noted that Civic Platform has repeatedly promised one thing and done another. Trzaskowski often deflected issues by saying that “at this moment” there were no plans, for instance, to accept migrants or adopt the euro—yet, as he himself once said in a debate, “times change.”
“They spent the entire campaign spreading disinformation about me, and now Trzaskowski comes out saying we need to fight disinformation? I’m sorry, but give me a break,” Mentzen said, visibly irritated. He also pointed out that Trzaskowski refused to sign even a single pledge, such as not raising taxes.
“In summary, I see no reason to vote for Rafał Trzaskowski,” Mentzen reiterated, describing him as “slippery.” According to Mentzen, Trzaskowski takes credit for every success but claims to know nothing about failures or scandals—”as if he had nothing to do with them.”
“Anyone who watched that debate saw that I don’t support Rafał Trzaskowski. Anyone who followed my campaign knows I don’t support Rafał Trzaskowski. So going out for a beer with him is absolutely not a sign of endorsement,” he emphasized.
