Michał Niewiński achieves second place in Beijing after a dramatic semifinal fall.
Polish speed skater Michał Niewiński faced a nerve-wracking moment in the World Tour short track event in Beijing when he fell during the semifinal. Despite the fall, which could have kept him out of the final, the judges ruled that a South Korean competitor caused the collision, allowing Niewiński to continue. In the final, Niewiński secured second place with a time of 1:25.480, just behind Canadian Felix Roussel, who won with 1:25.352.

Second Podium of the Season
This marks Niewiński’s second podium finish of the season, following his third-place finish in Montreal on the 500m. His recent success in Beijing reflects his growing consistency in the World Tour. Meanwhile, British skater Niall Treacy completed the podium, securing third place with a time of 1:25.598.
Niewiński also contributed to Poland’s success in the men’s relay, where they claimed second place in the B final. The Polish team, including Łukasz Kuczyński, Felix Pigeon, and Diane Sellier, demonstrated strong teamwork. They finished behind China in the A final. In the mixed relay, Poland finished fourth, just behind the victorious Chinese team.
The World Tour continues with upcoming races in Seoul, Tilburg, and Milan, while the European Championships are set for January. The season’s highlight, the World Championships, will take place in Beijing in mid-March.
