Law and Justice (PiS) MP Mateusz Morawiecki has accused the government of allowing Polish drivers to be overcharged at fuel stations.
“Today, crude oil is cheaper, refinery margins have largely returned to normal, but instead of lowering costs for Poles, the government is imposing new taxes on fuel companies to plug its leaky budget. The result? The benefits of cheaper oil are not reaching drivers, fuel prices remain high, and rising living costs continue to hit Polish families and the economy. It’s time to put an end to this,”
Morawiecki said.
Morawiecki compares oil and fuel prices: “The government is not lowering costs for drivers”
PiS MP and former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki commented on what he described as excessively high fuel prices at Polish filling stations.
As the former prime minister noted, a barrel of Brent crude currently costs around $88, which translates to just over 2 PLN per litre of crude oil. Meanwhile, petrol is selling for around 7 PLN per litre, while diesel costs approximately 7.20 PLN per litre at the pump.
Morawiecki pointed out that in 2022, a barrel of oil cost more than $120, while the U.S. dollar exchange rate was also higher. Despite that, the average retail fuel price was lower. According to him, this was because the PiS government reduced taxes and directed part of the refineries’ extraordinary profits to motorists.

Morawiecki added.
