Morawiecki Vows Round-the-Clock Effort, Criticizes Current Government for “Luxury and Idleness”

“They were changing their logo, while we want to change Poland,” said former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on TV Republika, referring to the conventions of PiS (Law and Justice) and KO (Civic Coalition), which took place this weekend.

Former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on TV Republika that he and his colleagues are working on a bold program aimed at preventing further demographic decline. He emphasized that this is the greatest challenge in the coming years.

“We discussed this at the congress. We worked on hundreds of ideas that we are now taking across Poland. It is from conversations with Poles that the program for 2027 will emerge. Demography is the question of being or not being for the Polish nation. Not in 50 or 100 years – it could become a millstone around our neck much sooner,” he said.

He also responded to criticism from the ruling coalition, which held its own convention over the weekend.

“They were changing their logo, while we want to change Poland,” Morawiecki stressed. He added that Poles will not be satisfied with a new name and will not pay for it through ever-rising bills, including for energy. “They follow a certain pattern: we talk specifics, we talk about the future, while they talk about PiS,” the former head of government underlined.

Morawiecki: I Promise to Roll Up My Sleeves

The discussion also turned to the budget deficit and the current state of public finances.

“Mistakes, carelessness, foolishness – and that’s putting it very politely toward the current prime minister. A less polite explanation would border on acting against Poland’s national interest. Tens of billions are leaking out of the budget. If it so happens that we are responsible for the budget again, within a year, there will be 30-40 billion zlotys more,” Morawiecki assured.

“I promise to roll up my sleeves and work hard – seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Not like my successor, who, as I’m told directly, spends time on Parkowa Street sitting around, sipping expensive wines, and smoking cigars,” the former prime minister added.

“The budget is a disaster that must be addressed! To the employees of the National Revenue Administration (KAS), I want to say: you are an indispensable part of fixing public finances. I have a plan to increase staffing there – no one will be laid off,”

Morawiecki declared.
