More than two thousand firefighters intervened after heavy rainfall

As reported this morning by the Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Katowice, more than 2,300 firefighters were deployed in response to heavy rainfall.


What did the operations involve?

The emergency services’ actions began on Wednesday afternoon and lasted until late at night. They consisted primarily of pumping water out of flooded and waterlogged buildings, as well as roads that in some places were impassable. “In connection with the heavy rainfall and the storm front that passed over the Silesian Voivodeship, firefighters intervened nearly 380 times. (…) In total, more than 2,300 firefighters were involved in the operations,” said Brig. Aneta Gołębiowska, spokesperson for the Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service.

She added that there were nearly 530 response units involved.

The highest number of interventions was recorded in Rybnik County, Ruda Śląska, and Jastrzębie-Zdrój.

No warning or alarm level exceedances were recorded on rivers in the Silesian Voivodeship, the Provincial Crisis Management Center in Katowice reported.
