Murder of Mateusz Sitek. Perpetrator wanted on Interpol Red Notice

An Interpol Red Notice has been issued for the suspect wanted in connection with the murder of Polish soldier Mateusz Sitek, the Warsaw Regional Prosecutor’s Office has informed us. Mohamed Addamrou – as the Moroccan national suspected of the crime is named – is also wanted under a national arrest warrant and a European Arrest Warrant.

On June 6, 2026, two years have passed since the death of Sgt. Mateusz Sitek, a 21-year-old defender of the Polish border, who lost his life after being attacked by an armed foreign national.

Although shortly after the death of the Polish soldier representatives of the government of Donald Tusk declared that apprehending and prosecuting the killer was a priority matter and a state interest of Poland, the suspect in the murder remains at large.

For some time, journalists from the niezalezna.pl portal have been trying to obtain information from the prosecutor’s office regarding the status of the investigation into the murder of Sgt. Sitek. The case is being handled by the Warsaw Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

“The prosecutor’s office is unable to answer basic questions. Although this concerns an investigation that should be a priority for investigators and involve various prosecutors, this time the press spokesman informed us that he must ask the case officer, and the officer is… on leave,” niezalezna.pl wrote in a text dated June 3, 2026.

Details of the perpetrator revealed

Today, the prosecutor’s office issued a statement on the case.

The Warsaw Regional Prosecutor’s Office, Military Affairs Division, stated that “during the two-year-long investigation, more than 140 witnesses were questioned in Poland and abroad, and significant forensic expert opinions were obtained”.

The investigation established that the perpetrator of the murder of the Polish soldier is a Moroccan national, Mohamed Addamrou.

In July 2025, a decision was issued to present charges of murder against him (Article 148 sections 1 and 3 of the Penal Code), punishable by no less than 15 years in prison up to life imprisonment. The District Court for Warsaw issued a decision on the temporary detention of the suspect, which enabled him to be sought under a national arrest warrant and a European Arrest Warrant.

In an interview with niezalezna.pl, the spokesperson for the Warsaw Regional Prosecutor’s Office, prosecutor Piotr A. Skiba, confirmed that an Interpol Red Notice has also been issued for Addamrou.

The prosecution established that the suspect is staying on the territory of Belarus, and therefore in December 2025 a request for temporary arrest and extradition to Poland was sent to Minsk.

“The investigation in this case was suspended on May 22, 2026 due to a long-term procedural obstacle, namely the suspect’s stay outside the territory of the Republic of Poland and the extradition proceedings initiated by Polish law enforcement authorities,” the prosecutor’s office stated.
