President Karol Nawrocki will meet with the Chair of the National Council of the Judiciary (KRS), Dagmara Pawełczyk-Woicka. The information was provided by the President’s spokesperson, Rafał Leśkiewicz.
“In connection with actions undertaken by the governing authorities against the National Council of the Judiciary, President of the Republic of Poland Karol Nawrocki has invited the Chair of the KRS, Dagmara Pawełczyk-Woicka, to a meeting to be held in the coming week,” he wrote on platform X.
On Friday, Members of Parliament passed an amendment to the Act on the National Council of the Judiciary, along with a related amendment to the Electoral Code. Under the adopted legislation, the judicial members of the KRS are to be elected by judges in direct and secret elections organized by the National Electoral Commission (PKW), rather than, as previously, by the Sejm.
Search at the KRS Headquarters
On Wednesday, a search was carried out at the KRS headquarters. The actions of prosecutors Zbigniew Rzepa and Tomasz Narłowski, accompanied by several dozen police officers, lasted approximately 12 hours.
In an interview with the news portal Niezalezna.pl, Judge Michał Lasota, the lawful Deputy Disciplinary Spokesperson for Judges of Common Courts, described the event as an “unlawful raid.” He stated that he had not received a search warrant or an order to surrender items from the prosecutors, even though the search concerned case files of proceedings conducted, among others, by himself.
We have learned that the prosecutors were asking about files concerning Joanna Raczkowska, Tomasz Ulman, and Dominik Czeszkiewicz. These were proceedings initiated by the Deputy Disciplinary Spokesperson for Judges of Common Courts, Judge Przemysław Radzik, regarding an alleged constitutional coup d’état.
