Poland Lags in Europe on Pension Payments

Poland’s retirement payouts are among the lowest in Europe. While the European average monthly pension sits at €1,294 (around PLN 5,600), Polish retirees receive only about €538, equating to PLN 2,320. This stark contrast underscores the financial limitations that retirees face in Poland.

European Pension Leaders and Poland’s Position

In 2021, Iceland led Europe with the highest average pension of €2,762 per month, equivalent to roughly PLN 12,000. Western European countries like Germany, France, and Spain offer pensions between €1,440 and €1,457. In contrast, Poland’s pension payouts fall well below the European average, even being outpaced by Estonia (€569).

    Struggling Eastern European Countries

Poland, however, isn’t the lowest on the continent. Albania ranks at the bottom with a €131 monthly pension, followed by Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Turkey. Latvia’s retirees, just below Poland, receive around €421 monthly.
