Poland Signs New Defense Contracts Amid Push for Increased Military Spending

Poland has signed a series of new defense contracts valued at approximately 2 billion PLN, as announced during the 32nd International Defence Industry Exhibition (MSPO) in Kielce. The event saw the participation of prominent figures, including President Andrzej Duda and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.

President Duda highlighted the importance of these contracts in the context of strengthening NATO’s collective defense capabilities. Speaking at the event, he emphasized his long-standing advocacy for increased defense spending, which he has been pushing for months. Duda recalled his efforts earlier this year, during the 25th anniversary of Poland’s NATO membership, when he urged alliance members to raise their defense budgets to 3% of GDP.

“The peaceful and consistent policy of strengthening defense within NATO led to the downfall of the Soviet Union and its economy, which could not bear the financial and technological burden,” Duda remarked. He expressed confidence that today, too, increasing defense expenditures would make NATO armies formidable, ensuring that they could not be defeated, especially if they stood united in defending every inch of NATO territory.

Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz added that the newly signed contracts include key investments in systems such as Narew and Wisła, radar systems, and collaborations with foreign partners. Additionally, substantial agreements have been secured with Polish companies like Rosomak S.A., Jelcz S.A., and WB Electronics, reflecting a strong commitment to enhancing the domestic defense industry. The minister also announced plans to sign more contracts, including for FlyEye systems, underscoring the importance of investing in Poland’s own defense capabilities.
