The Polish national futsal team emerged triumphant in the Futsal Week June Cup, held in Porec, Croatia. In a thrilling final match, Poland defeated Sweden with an impressive score of 6-3 (2-1). The victory capped off a successful tournament for the Polish squad, who had earlier demolished San Marino 9-0 (5-0).
Initially, Zambia was slated to participate in the tournament, but their absence led to two additional matches between Poland and Sweden. The Polish team, led by coach Błażej Korczyński, won both encounters, with scores of 2-1 and 8-3. Mikołaj Zastawnik particularly shone in the latter match, scoring an incredible seven goals.
Road to the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2024
Looking ahead, the Polish team will commence the group stage of the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2024 qualifiers in September. They will face formidable opponents in Ukraine, Serbia, and Belgium. The winners of the five groups in this stage will secure direct qualification, while the top four second-placed teams will compete in playoffs for the remaining two spots (unless a European nation hosts the World Cup).
Previously, Coach Korczyński’s team topped their group in the initial phase of the World Cup qualifiers. The Polish side recorded victories over Greece twice (3-0, 4-1), suffered a narrow 3-4 loss to Azerbaijan, and triumphed over the same opponent with an impressive 7-2 scoreline.
