Poland’s National Security Bureau demands explanations after police intervention at TV Republika CEO’s apartment

The head of Poland’s National Security Bureau, Bartosz Grodecki, has asked Interior and Administration Minister Marcin Kierwiński to provide detailed information regarding the actions taken by state services against journalists from TV Republika. The move comes in response to a series of incidents involving false reports and Friday’s police intervention at the apartment of the station’s CEO, Tomasz Sakiewicz.

Grodecki sent an official letter to Kierwiński concerning the conduct of the services towards journalists affiliated with TV Republika.

Earlier, Grodecki announced the planned intervention on social media.

“On Monday, I will ask Interior and Administration Minister Marcin Kierwiński to present detailed information regarding the actions of the services under his authority in connection with the harassment of TV Republika journalists. There can be no consent to restricting freedom of speech and paralysing the work of independent media in Poland,”

he wrote.

The National Security Bureau also confirmed that the official letter had been sent.

“As announced, the head of the National Security Bureau, Minister Bartosz Grodecki, sent a letter to Minister Marcin Kierwiński requesting detailed information from the Interior Ministry regarding the actions of the services subordinate to him in connection with the series of incidents targeting journalists and the editorial staff of TV Republika,”
