“All members of parliament, state officials, and the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland should demand explanations from the Prime Minister and the Interior Minister!” wrote former head of the National Security Bureau, Sławomir Cenckiewicz, referring to the police operation at the home of Tomasz Sakiewicz, CEO of TV Republika.
On Friday afternoon, police officers forcibly entered Sakiewicz’s home, which also houses the broadcaster’s editorial office, and handcuffed his assistant.
“Without identifying themselves, the officers stormed in and handcuffed my assistant after she demanded that they show identification (…) Interestingly, they did not approach me, even though I stated that I was the owner of the apartment. They searched my apartment without a warrant. They left no written report behind and refused to identify themselves,”
Sakiewicz recounted.

Police claim that the handcuffs were used to ensure the safety of both the officers and Ms. Aleksandra. Cenckiewicz also commented on the matter.
“According to a document disclosed by TV Republika, the Government Security Centre classified reports concerning bombs and suicides at the homes of journalists and at TV Republika’s headquarters as ‘cascading’ reports of ‘very low credibility’ that did not require ‘evacuation.’ Fourteen such cases have already been recorded. Given this, why are such excessively disproportionate interventions taking place?”
asked the former head of the National Security Bureau.
“This appears to be a form of possible provocation, in which the perpetrators of these false reports have been operating with impunity for the third consecutive day (if the reports are indeed false), while the police are intervening against the victims of these provocations, and as of today, are using physical force inside the private residence of the president of TV Republika, handcuffing President Sakiewicz’s assistant and carrying out a search. All members of parliament, state officials, and the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland should demand explanations from the Prime Minister and the Interior Minister!”
Cenckiewicz added.
Cenckiewicz further stated that “today, we should all defend TV Republika.”
