Poland’s national 3×3 basketball team has earned a spot in the upcoming Paris Olympics following a thrilling qualification tournament in Debrecen. The team that secured the Olympic berth consists of Adrian Bogucki, Filip Matczak, Michał Sokołowski, and Przemysław Zamojski. However, coach Piotr Renkiel might make changes to this lineup before the Games, especially considering Sokołowski’s involvement with the 5×5 team, which still has its own Olympic qualifiers ahead.
The Paris 2024 Olympics will feature eight men’s and eight women’s teams in the 3×3 basketball competition. The men’s teams include Serbia, USA, China, Latvia, Netherlands, France, Lithuania, and Poland, while the women’s teams consist of France, China, USA, Azerbaijan, Australia, Germany, Spain, and Canada. Serbia, the current world champion, is a strong favorite in the men’s category, with defending Olympic champion Latvia also posing a significant threat.
The tournament will follow a round-robin format where each team plays against every other team in their group. The top two teams from this phase will directly advance to the semifinals, while the teams finishing in positions 3 to 6 will compete in “play-in” games to secure their semifinal spots.
The competition begins on July 30, with women’s matches concluding by August 3 and men’s matches by August 4. The semifinals and medal matches are set for August 5. Poland’s participation in Paris marks a significant achievement for its 3×3 basketball program, promising exciting matches and a potential for a memorable Olympic performance.
