Kraskowski not giving up in custody: “He is even more determined to work”

“He is even more determined to continue his journalistic work,” said attorney Łukasz Pawelski, legal counsel for Leszek Kraskowski. The journalist has finally spoken with his lawyer, despite having already spent several days in custody.

Investigative journalist Leszek Kraskowski, known for revealing information uncomfortable for Roman Giertych (Civic Coalition), including in connection with the Polnord case, was arrested at the beginning of the week and placed in pre-trial detention for three months. According to statements from the prosecutor’s office, he has been charged with making criminal threats and illegally possessing a gas pistol and ammunition without a permit.

After several days, Kraskowski was finally able to speak with his defence lawyer. Pawelski said that, in the face of his detention, the journalist is even more determined to continue his journalistic work.

“He asked me to convey his sincere thanks to everyone involved in the case,”

Pawelski said.

The defence lawyer had earlier stated on TV Republika that the conditions in which Kraskowski is being held are scandalous. As he stressed, his client was detained while wearing shorts and a light T-shirt, and despite unfavourable weather conditions, he was taken out for walks without appropriate clothing.

“If I were to assess his physical condition, he has been bitten by bedbugs. We are living in the 21st century, and Leszek is being held in such conditions,”

the lawyer emphasised.

He also added that it was only after his intervention that Kraskowski received trousers, while he was given socks by one of his fellow inmates.

“Thanks to the fact that I managed to secure access to Leszek, he got trousers. Today, one of his fellow prisoners also gave him socks,”

he said.
