Poland’s national airline, PLL LOT, has denied a Russian women’s tennis professional entry onto their flight due to her Russian citizenship.

Tennis star Vitalia Diatchenko was on her way to Corsica for an upcoming tournament when she had a layover in Warsaw while en route from Cairo.

LOT Polish Airlines has announced that they cannot allow Russian citizen Vitalia Diatchenko to board any of its aircraft due to a government decree limiting air travel between Poland and the Russian Federation.

“PLL LOT was unable to allow a citizen of the Russian Federation on its passenger roll in keeping with a decree by the interior minister of March 13 2020, which temporarily suspends or restricts passage through certain border crossings, including air terminals, for Russian citizens,”

    LOT wrote in its statement.

Tatiana Diatchenko, currently ranked 250th in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) world rankings, has taken to social media to express her frustration over the logistical issues she has faced in order to travel to a tournament. The 32-year-old, who was due to compete, has been forced to withdraw due to an inability to make it on time.
