Rotting vegetables in the fields, indecently low wheat prices at collection points, and plummeting pig stock, alongside rising costs of fertilizers, fuel, and feed. All of this poses a real threat to the food security of the entire country. Former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has directed a package of questions to the government.
“Hundreds of tons of peppers, tomatoes, and other vegetables are rotting in the fields. Processing plants refuse to collect them, importing goods from abroad, which makes production completely unprofitable for our farmers” – the material published by former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki states.
“Wheat prices have fallen to their lowest in two decades. Prices of fertilizers, fuel, and energy are continuously rising, forcing producers to fight for survival without any profit. Pig stock has hit rock bottom, the lowest since the 1950s. This is the result of high feed prices, burdensome sanitary requirements, and the flood of imported meat” – it continues.
All of this represents real threats to the food security of the entire country.
In the recording, questions were raised about preventing a catastrophe in the Polish countryside:
- Where is the government action?
- Where is the emergency purchase program?
- Where are the subsidies for farmers in crisis?
- Where is the protection of local producers?
- Where is the pig stock recovery program?
