Polish Diplomat Commends EU’s Decisive Action with Sanctions Against Belarus

In a significant move, the ambassadors of European Union member countries came together on Tuesday to adopt a comprehensive package of economic and individual sanctions aimed at Belarus, as revealed by a reliable EU source.

For Poland’s Ambassador to the EU, Andrzej Sadoś, this development marks a pivotal moment, breaking the year-long stalemate on the issue of sanctions against Belarus. He confirmed that the EU has taken a firm stance by deciding to impose additional sanctions on the Belarusian regime.

“We have decided to apply economic sanctions on military equipment, weapons, ammunition, dual-use goods, aviation technologies, and products,” Ambassador Sadoś explained to PAP (Polish Press Agency).

Moreover, it is noteworthy that the ambassadors have not excluded fertilisers from the list of sanctioned items, which implies that they, too, will be covered by the measures.

The origins of this decision can be traced back to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s announcement in January, expressing the EU’s intent to impose sanctions on Belarus for its involvement in Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and its harsh actions against the Belarusian opposition. However, until now, EU countries had been grappling to reach a unanimous agreement on the matter.
