Polish Family Business Suempol Acquires British Fish Supplier

Polish fish industry leader Suempol has acquired 100% of the shares in Copernus, a prominent seafood supplier based in the UK. Suempol, known as Poland’s oldest smoked salmon producer and one of the largest globally, celebrated its 35th anniversary this year. The company has its roots in a small mechanical workshop established in 1970.

Suempol, already operating in international markets such as Germany, France, and Norway, successfully finalized the Copernus acquisition, a company that produces around 52 million portions of seafood annually. The move is a strategic step in Suempol’s expansion into new markets, with the UK being a key target due to its high seafood consumption.

Maciej Jaworowski, Vice President of Suempol, emphasized the significance of this acquisition for strengthening the company’s presence in the UK market. The partnership will allow Suempol to diversify its product range, including new fish varieties like cod and haddock, and enhance Copernus’ market position.

Jaworowski expressed confidence that the Copernus team would continue contributing to the enterprise’s success, noting that the collaboration would create opportunities for both companies.
