As reported by the Podlaskie Police, officers from the police station in Raczki (Podlaskie Voivodeship), near the Polish-Lithuanian border, stopped a vehicle carrying two illegal migrants, citizens of Tajikistan.
A total of eight illegal migrants were reported detained today by the authorities.
The police reported that the citizens of Tajikistan were staying in Poland illegally and had been handed over to the Border Guard.
On Sunday, Border Guard officers, in cooperation with the Ełk police, also detained a woman at the Polish-Lithuanian border who was transporting two illegal migrants.
The Border Guard reported that the woman, detained by officers from the Rutka-Tartak outpost, is a “stateless Latvian national” holding a Lithuanian residence permit. The migrants are citizens of Syria.
“The woman will face charges for organising illegal border crossings. The migrants will be handed over to the Lithuanian authorities,”
the Border Guard stated.
Latvian couriers were also detained
Early in the morning, a spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior and Administration reported that in Krejwiany, near the Polish-Lithuanian border, the authorities detained three couriers who were transporting four illegal migrants.
The couriers are Latvian nationals, and the transported migrants include three Somali citizens and one Sudanese citizen.
Border controls at the Lithuanian border, overseen by the Podlasie Border Guard Division, were reinstated on July 7. These are carried out in cooperation with the police and the 1st Podlasie Territorial Defence Brigade.
The border with Lithuania is 104 kilometres long. Inspections are conducted at a total of 13 locations. Three of these are official border crossings – two road crossings in Budzisko and Ogrodniki, and a rail crossing in Trakiszki – where controls are conducted continuously, around the clock.
The remaining 10 locations where the border can be crossed are so-called “ad hoc control points.”
