Polish Postal Workers Strike: PiS Pledges Support Amid Planned Layoffs

Polish Post (Poczta Polska) workers strike against mass layoffs. PiS politicians join the protest, vowing to protect jobs and oppose government deregulation plans.

Mass Protests Over Planned Job Cuts

A strike is underway at the headquarters of Polish Post (Poczta Polska) as workers voice their opposition to the company’s plan to cut approximately 9,300 jobs through a Voluntary Departure Program. The announcement has sparked outrage among employees and unions, who fear the layoffs will severely disrupt operations. Since last Wednesday, members of the “Solidarity” trade union have been occupying the company’s headquarters in Warsaw, demanding genuine negotiations and respect for workers’ rights.

PiS Politicians Stand with Postal Workers

Members of the opposition Law and Justice party (PiS) have expressed their solidarity with the striking workers. During a press conference outside the Polish Post headquarters, PiS politician Mariusz Błaszczak criticized the government’s deregulation plans, suggesting they could lead to the downfall of the national postal service. “Poczta Polska plays a crucial role in the country’s security,” Błaszczak emphasized. He warned that the layoffs, which amount to 15% of the workforce, might paralyze the organization and benefit private competitors. PiS pledged to take legislative action in parliament to prevent the job cuts and protect the future of Polish Post.
