Polish-Russian Border to Receive Electronic Fencing System by Fall

Construction of an electronic barrier along the Polish-Russian border has already begun, according to Poland’s Interior Minister.

Polish Interior Minister Mariusz Kaminski announced on Tuesday that a fence along Poland’s borders with Russia’s Kaliningrad Region is expected to be completed by autumn. Kaminski said the fence is necessary to better monitor activity in the area.

Kaminski stated that the fence would be “state-of-the-art,” mirroring the barrier recently constructed between Poland and Belarus.

Poland’s border with Belarus has been subject to increased tension this year, as thousands of migrants attempt to enter the country. In response, a Belarusian fence has been constructed, lined with CCTV cameras and night-vision equipment. This is the latest measure taken by the Polish government in an attempt to control the influx of migrants.

“I am convinced that our eastern border will be perfectly prepared for all kinds of illegal actions which have been connected with crisis situations caused by our eastern neighbours,”

    Kaminski said.

Kaminski added that he believes the border will be the best-protected border in the whole European Union.
