Polish school supplies are mainly imported from China, with declining imports but rising contributions from Vietnam and the Netherlands.
As the new school year begins, many Polish parents and students are preparing school supplies. Experts from Akcenta have analyzed the origins of essential items like pens, pencils, crayons, notebooks, and backpacks. The results show that China is the dominant supplier, accounting for over 50% of imports in each category. Poland also imports school supplies from Germany, France, and increasingly from Vietnam.
Key Suppliers of School Supplies
According to GUS data, in 2023, Poland imported pens, markers, and writing tools worth 572 million PLN, a 17% decrease from 2022. China led this category with nearly 50% market share, followed by Germany and Japan.
Notebooks and Backpacks
Notebooks and journals also saw a decline in imports, reaching 327 million PLN in 2023, down 13% from the previous year. China remained the top supplier, providing nearly half of the imported notebooks. However, imports from countries like Vietnam and the Netherlands showed significant growth, with triple-digit increases in certain categories.
