Postponing and Blocking the Warsaw Uprising March. Bąkiewicz on the Voivode’s Decision: “Disgrace!”

Robert Bąkiewicz strongly criticized the decision of the Masovian Voivode on the X platform, after the latter refused to grant the Warsaw Uprising March, scheduled for August 1, the status of a recurring assembly. Bąkiewicz emphasized that the application to register the march as a recurring event had been submitted back in October 2024, yet the voivode’s decision came at the very last possible moment. “This is what the ‘rule of law’ looks like under Tusk – delaying, blocking, and destroying patriotic initiatives,” he wrote.

As we have reported many times, Bąkiewicz had previously accused Rafał Trzaskowski of routinely restricting freedom of assembly for ideological reasons.

In 2023, during a press briefing in front of Warsaw City Hall, Bąkiewicz cited a ruling by the Supreme Court from June of that year, which overturned the decision of the Court of Appeals and upheld the decision of the Masovian Voivode to grant the Warsaw Uprising March the status of a recurring assembly. At the time, the Supreme Court stated that only the applicant may challenge a decision denying recurring status, which supported Bąkiewicz’s position. He subsequently filed a complaint with the prosecutor’s office against Trzaskowski, accusing him of abuse of power and acting against the public interest by restricting the Warsaw Uprising March.

Today, Bąkiewicz points out that the necessity of registering this year’s march as a private individual rather than as an association was the result of earlier actions by Trzaskowski and the Warsaw courts – both the District and the Appellate – which, he claims, unlawfully blocked the event’s organization. He stresses that it was not the organizers who broke the continuity of the march, but rather the actions of the authorities and the courts. He adds that the current decision by the voivode is a continuation of these unlawful practices, and he describes the lack of goodwill and political maneuvering on the anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising as “a disgrace.”

Despite the obstacles, Bąkiewicz has announced that the march will take place on August 1 at 5:00 PM, beginning at Rondo Dmowskiego, as it has been submitted and registered under a different legal procedure. He also calls on everyone to participate in the event, which aims to honor the memory of the heroes of the Warsaw Uprising.
