“The Polish judiciary needs reform, but it also needs people and legal professionals who will serve only the Republic of Poland, follow their conscience, and uphold their judicial independence rather than listen to politicians in judicial robes,” President Karol Nawrocki said in an appeal to newly appointed judicial assessors.
Today, at the Presidential Palace, President Karol Nawrocki presented appointments to newly selected judicial assessors. At the end of the ceremony, he addressed the gathered legal professionals.
“Today at the Presidential Palace is a day dedicated to the judiciary. First, I received the oath of office from a judge of the Constitutional Tribunal, then from four judges of the Supreme Court, and now – thanks to all of you – I have received a wonderful reward. More than two hundred judicial assessors from across Poland have come to the Palace. Congratulations to all of you, and thank you for being here. You are the hope of the Polish judiciary as a new generation of judicial assessors and, in the future, judges,” he began.
“You are the generation in which I see great hope for restoring the Polish judiciary. Today’s ceremony demonstrates one fundamental principle: amid the turbulent waters of the Polish justice system, there is one anchor before which the oath must be taken – the President of the Republic of Poland. This is not about me personally. It is about every past and future president before whom every judge and every judicial assessor must take the oath, because that is the will of the Polish nation,” he told the newly appointed assessors.
He admitted that “we are all adults, and we know that the Polish judiciary in 2026 is in poor condition.”
“There is chaos and confusion, for which we are not personally responsible. According to public opinion polls, 57 percent of society does not trust the judiciary today. As President, I want to ask that we follow the path of restoring the justice system through your independence and your commitment to the Republic of Poland. Together, let us ensure that these statistics improve in the years ahead,” he appealed.

Today I have the impression that Lady Justice still holds her sword, but at times the blindfold slips from her eyes. Perhaps she spends too much time with her grandfather Chaos instead of with her mother Gaia, who represents the Earth and motherhood,” President Nawrocki concluded.
