President Nawrocki Launches a New Tradition Involving the Polish Flag

“ATTENTION! The Christmas nativity scene is not the only new tradition introduced by President Karol Nawrocki,” wrote Paweł Szefernaker, Head of the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland, on social media. The new initiative of the Polish head of state concerns… the flag that flies above the Presidential Palace. Details below.

Ahead of Christmas, Paweł Szefernaker, Head of the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland Karol Nawrocki, announced that a nativity scene would be set up in front of the Presidential Palace this year.

And so it happened. A new tradition.

Now, the Head of the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland has shared information about another – new tradition. This one, in turn, concerns the white-and-red flag. “ATTENTION! The Christmas nativity scene is not the only new tradition introduced by President Karol Nawrocki,” Paweł Szefernaker begins.

In the video published by him, we hear: “There are symbols that last longer than terms of office, longer than disputes, longer than a generation. The flag of the Republic of Poland is one of them. It was under this flag that people fought for freedom, rebuilt the state, and took oaths. For years it has flown above the Presidential Palace, the seat of the head of state, as a sign of the continuity of the Republic, as a sign of the responsibility of power.” “But the white-and-red does not belong to walls, it does not belong to offices. It belongs to the nation,” it was added.

“Therefore, from January 1, 2026, every Saturday at exactly 12:00, the flag above the Presidential Palace will be changed, and the one that had been flying there will not be folded away in silence – it will go to those who serve the Republic, to schools where future generations are being educated, to firefighters and services that safeguard security, to institutions that bear the burden of the state every day. The flag that flies above the seat of the head of state should remain close to the nation. This is a gesture of respect, a sign of community!” it was announced. The information was also addressed by the presidential spokesperson – Rafał Leśkiewicz.

The white-and-red flag above the Presidential Palace is a reminder that Poland is a free and sovereign state. The flag is a sign of continuity – from the first royal coronations to the present day. It is also a commitment to care for our Homeland, to responsibility for its future, and to respect for the national community it symbolizes, he wrote on X.
