President Nawrocki: Polish Borders Are Sacred and Will Be Defended

“As Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, I regard borders as sacred. One cannot cross the borders of other states, whether with drones or troops,” said President of the Republic of Poland Karol Nawrocki in an interview with the American broadcaster NewsMax.

The President gave the interview during his visit to New York, where he participated in the general debate of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. He was asked, among other things, about Russian provocations concerning violations of NATO countries’ airspace. Nawrocki assured that, in the event of further such actions by Russia, the Polish Armed Forces, in coordination with allies, would “neutralize drones.”

“Every provocation will be met with the strength of the Polish soldier,” he declared.

“Testing NATO’s reaction”

He emphasized that one cannot allow a situation where foreign troops or aircraft violate the territory of NATO states. In his view, such incidents would mean that “another boundary of international relations has been crossed.” He also stressed that the countries of the free world should continue to support Ukraine.

“What is happening in Ukraine, we in Poland and Central Europe perceive as a test of the reactions of NATO member states. It depends on us whether this war will spread further or whether Russia will be stopped. This is why subsequent sanction packages are so important,” he stated.

Business with the aggressor

Referring to the issue of some Western states purchasing Russian gas, he said he could not understand “this dissonance between, on the one hand, declaring the imposition of further sanction packages on the Russian Federation, and on the other hand, conducting business with the Russian Federation.”

He pointed out that Poland no longer buys gas from Russia, which, in his view, “creates opportunities for even greater and better economic cooperation with the United States.”
