President Karol Nawrocki stressed to President Donald Trump that any talks with Vladimir Putin must be conducted with great caution, firmness, and consistency, presidential spokesman Rafał Leśkiewicz said. He noted that during the U.S. leader’s conversation with European heads of state, the issue of security guarantees for Ukraine was also raised—though only in very general terms.
After Friday’s meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, the American president held talks with European leaders, including Karol Nawrocki. In an interview with RMF FM, Rafał Leśkiewicz, the spokesman for the Polish president, spoke about the background of the discussion.
According to him, President Nawrocki highlighted three key points. First, he expressed satisfaction that talks between Trump and Putin had begun, calling it a positive step toward establishing peace in Ukraine.
Leśkiewicz explained that the second part of Nawrocki’s remarks “focused on stressing that discussions with Vladimir Putin must be conducted very carefully, very firmly, and consistently, while also bearing in mind that Putin has repeatedly broken his word and failed to honor agreements reached during meetings in which he took part.”
Nothing About Ukraine Without Ukraine
Nawrocki also made his position clear, emphasizing that no decisions regarding Ukraine can be taken without its participation.
“President Karol Nawrocki made it clear that nothing about Ukraine can be decided without Ukraine,” the presidential spokesman said.
Security Guarantees
He admitted that the discussion also touched on the issue of security guarantees for Ukraine, but—as he pointed out—“it was just one of the topics raised, discussed only in very broad outline.”
He added that concrete decisions on this matter are expected to be made during future meetings between the U.S. president and European leaders.
