The scandal at Warsaw’s Southern Hospital has reverberated across Poland. Will anyone be held accountable? Mariusz Błaszczak of Law and Justice (PiS) has serious doubts. “Is the prosecutor’s office, headed by Żurek, supposed to explain it?” he asked on TV Republika.
Has the scandal sunk Tusk’s government?
In recent days, all of Poland has been focused on the scandal triggered by reports of alleged irregularities at Warsaw’s Southern Hospital and accusations concerning the hospital’s organization of work. The controversy began with reports that individuals connected to the Civic Platform (KO) were admitted to the hospital’s Emergency Department through a special “VIP lounge” procedure. In the background is a young millionaire doctor. Dawid Kacprzyk received approximately PLN 1.6 million for providing medical services in 2025.
Portal Zero established that the councillor was supposed to have worked a total of 3,976 hours at Warsaw’s Southern Hospital in 2025, which, according to hospital data, amounts to an average of 331 hours per month. The doctor’s duty schedules indicate that some shifts were scheduled to last continuously for three or even four days.
But that was not the end of the matter. The former head of department at Southern Hospital, Dr. Emil Jędrzejewski, publicly stated that negligence in the Emergency Department may have contributed to patients’ deaths. How did Prime Minister Donald Tusk respond? He claimed that the doctor, who is to be questioned by prosecutors on Monday, is… not very credible.
Asked on TV Republika about the Prime Minister’s stance, Law and Justice (PiS) MP Mariusz Błaszczak said:
“Donald Tusk stands at the head of this system, this network, these cliques. They are all interconnected, linked together. Prime Minister Tusk is responsible for it, and therefore he has adopted the position that he will not clarify the matter.”
“Although he says there will be an explanation, no reasonable person takes that seriously. Is the prosecutor’s office, headed by Żurek, supposed to explain it? The lawyer representing that 28-year-old doctor is attorney Dubois, who has very close ties to the current government. His former wife is a Deputy Minister of Justice. We know who we are dealing with.”
Błaszczak also added: “MP Neumann spoke about this years ago in the leaked recordings. This is exactly the Neumann doctrine.”
The former Defence Minister announced that next week Law and Justice (PiS) will present a draft bill establishing a Public Accountability Commission, which would consist of lawyers and doctors. He stated that there would be no place for politicians on the commission.
