“Let us loudly say ‘no’ to the policies of Donald Tusk and Rafał Trzaskowski concerning the relocation of migrants to Poland,” appeals Janusz Kowalski, a Member of Parliament from the Law and Justice party (PiS), in a video posted online. The politician, together with Robert Bąkiewicz, is already present in the town of Gubin, where a protest against such policies commenced at noon on Saturday.
On Saturday, a demonstration is being held in opposition to the transfer of migrants to Poland by Germany. The event is taking place in Gubin, and its organizers—Robert Bąkiewicz and MP Janusz Kowalski—had arrived at the location beforehand.
In a video message, the opposition politician encouraged public participation in the event. He also called upon citizens to document the actions of the German police, asserting that “buses are travelling from the German side to the porous Polish-German border […] and are dropping off migrants here.”
Bąkiewicz declared that Saturday’s demonstration constituted a protest against “the actions of the German state and its officials, who are attempting to forcibly impose migrants upon the Polish people.” He further stated, “This demonstration is also a protest against the migration pact and against the actions of Donald Tusk’s government, which favour the opening of Poland’s borders to a flood of migrants who are entirely foreign to us in cultural terms—something that, objectively, will lead to a decline in Polish security.”
Election posters of Rafał Trzaskowski were hung on barricades near the bridge. Referring to these, MP Kowalski harshly criticized the Deputy Leader of the Civic Platform party (Platforma Obywatelska).
“This man is the face of illegal migration. This man and his political formation—the formation of Rafał Trzaskowski and Donald Tusk—have brought us to a point where Polish citizens must protest here today. Protesters are defending their families, their wives, their mothers, and their children because we do not want illegal migrants in Poland. We do not want migrants being dropped off in regions like Podlasie, among others. We do not want attacks on Polish children in playgrounds. We do not want Polish women to be afraid to leave their homes at night. This is exactly what we are protesting against,”
he declared.
The protest is being held at the entrance to the border bridge from Bolesław Chrobry Street at noon.
“We expect a good atmosphere, that we will awaken Poland from its slumber. The phenomenon of mass migration will affect all of us! We also expect good cooperation with the police. Poles understand that this is a serious issue impacting the entire country. This same process was carried out in France and Germany,”
Bąkiewicz stated in an interview with TV Republika.
