Rachoń to TVN: “It’s Never Too Late to Turn Back from Lies”

“TVN24 spreads lies. The signal from the 45th anniversary celebration of the August Agreements is provided free of charge to anyone interested by TV Republika,” wrote Michał Rachoń on X, referring to TVN’s statement. Responding to jabs at Republika, he reminded that TVN was founded by collaborators of the communist services.

As we reported earlier on our website, parallel events commemorating the 45th anniversary of the signing of the August Agreements are taking place in Gdańsk today. One of them, organized by Solidarity (NSZZ “Solidarność”), is attended by, among others, the President of Poland and Karol Nawrocki. The other, organized by the city authorities, includes Gdańsk mayor Aleksandra Dulkiewicz and politicians from the Civic Coalition (KO).

Around 2:00 p.m., TVN24 released a statement claiming it had not been allowed to attend the ceremony organized by NSZZ “Solidarność” in the historic BHP Hall of the Gdańsk Shipyard. “According to the organizers’ intention, we could only show you what would be shown by the cameras of a right-wing station connected to PiS. We cannot and will not agree to that,” TVN journalists complained.

Program Director of TV Republika, Michał Rachoń, responded to these accusations.

“TVN24 spreads lies. The signal from the 45th anniversary celebration of the August Agreements is provided free of charge to anyone interested by TV Republika. Meanwhile, TVN claims that it is being done by some unnamed, mysterious ‘television connected to PiS,'” he emphasized in a post published on X. He explained that unlike TVN, Republika is not associated with any communist party. By contrast, TVN was founded by collaborators of the communist services.

“We remind TVN that the times of Jerzy Urban and his protégé Mariusz Walter are over – precisely thanks to the Solidarity revolution. The heroes of those times, among them Joanna Duda Gwiazda, Andrzej Gwiazda, Krzysztof Wyszkowski, Andrzej Kołodziej and many others – of whom we are very proud – co-create TV Republika with us,” said Michał Rachoń.

He also stressed that it is millions of viewers who finance Republika’s activity, and their views and “unprecedented involvement in building freedom of speech in Poland” should be respected.

“Turn back from the path of lies – it is never too late for that. Switch on the truth,” Rachoń finally appealed to TVN.
