Remembering the 75th anniversary of the death of Captain Witold Pilecki

On May 25, 1948, in the Mokotów Prison in Warsaw, the communists carried out the death sentence on Captain Witold Pilecki. Today, we mark the solemn occasion of the 75th anniversary of his passing.

Captain Pilecki was a remarkable Polish hero who voluntarily infiltrated the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II. His mission was to gather intelligence and expose the atrocities committed by the Nazis. Through immense courage and determination, he managed to escape after almost three years of unimaginable horrors.

Unfortunately, his fight for freedom did not end there. After the war, Captain Pilecki continued to oppose the emerging communist regime in Poland. This ultimately led to his arrest, unfair trial, and tragic execution.

We remember Captain Witold Pilecki as an emblem of unwavering bravery and sacrifice. His selfless acts in the face of unimaginable adversity serve as a constant reminder of the importance of upholding human dignity and freedom.

As we commemorate the 75th anniversary of his untimely death, let us honor Captain Pilecki’s memory by ensuring that his legacy of courage and resistance against tyranny lives on.
