Russia might attempt to conquer Kyiv from Belarus, Polish PM warns

Russia may launch another attack on Ukraine from Belarus to open a new front and threaten Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, Mateusz Morawiecki, the Polish prime minister, has warned.

Morawiecki hinted at such a possibility in an interview with the Polish private radio RMF FM on Saturday.

“Poles should be concerned about what’s happening in Ukraine,” he said.

“Another Russian attack on Ukraine may come from Belarus,” the prime minister said. “Yet another… northern front may be opened to try and threaten the Ukrainian capital.”

Morawiecki said the risk was “real” and taken into account by the US, Britain and the whole of Nato.

“Therefore, we’re strengthening our military presence in the east of Poland,” he added.
