Severe weather is on the horizon as a low-pressure system known as Gordian forms on the atmospheric front associated with the Ciaran low in Poland. The system is expected to bring heavy rainfall and strong gusts of wind, particularly in the northern regions of the country.
Grzegorz Walijewski, a spokesperson for the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW), warned that Gordian is likely to enter Poland from the south and pose significant risks to the northern parts of the country, including Wielkopolskie and Mazowieckie.
Walijewski explained, “As Gordian develops, wind gusts may reach speeds of up to 90-100 km/h in localized areas.” Meteorologists have issued second-level warnings for several provinces, including Pomerania, Warmia-Masuria, Kuyavia-Pomerania, western Mazovia, eastern Greater Poland, Łódź, and the northern parts of Opole and Silesia.
Additionally, warnings have been issued for the southern and eastern parts of the country, where wind gusts are expected to be slightly lower, around 80 km/h, with occasional peaks of 85 km/h. The wind direction will shift from the south to the west.
The low-pressure system is also accompanied by heavy rainfall. Rainfall amounts may range from 40 to locally 50 liters per square meter, which is significant, considering that the central part of the country typically experiences monthly averages of 30-40 liters per square meter.
As Gordian approaches, residents in affected areas should exercise caution and stay updated on weather advisories to ensure their safety during this severe weather event.
