Teenagers’ Joyride Ends in Disaster: Drunk Driving and Unauthorized Vehicle Use Lead to Charges

Driving under the influence, driving without a license, causing a road collision – these are the charges faced by an 18-year-old Ukrainian citizen who celebrated his coming of age a little too enthusiastically and ended up in police custody. His 17-year-old friend, who accompanied him, will also be held responsible for the unauthorized use of a Ford Transit, borrowed by the young men without the knowledge or consent of the owner.

The incident involving the 18-year-old and the 17-year-old took place on Thursday night in Klementowice. The driver of the Ford Transit, with the 17-year-old passenger on board, caused a collision and the vehicle flipped over. Both men were taken to the hospital, but after examination, it was determined that they had sustained minor injuries and were subsequently released.

However, they found themselves in police custody as it turned out that the 18-year-old did not possess a driver’s license and was intoxicated at the time of the incident. His blood alcohol level was measured at two per mille. His younger companion had slightly over one per mille.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the car they were driving belonged to the owner for whom both young men worked. Exploiting the fact that the vehicle was used for work purposes on the farm, the teenagers took it without the owner’s knowledge, celebrating the older one’s “coming of age” with a joyride.

Once they sobered up, they were charged and questioned. Both expressed a willingness to voluntarily accept their punishment.

Driving under the influence is a serious offense that poses a significant risk to oneself and others on the road. It is essential to raise awareness among young drivers about the dangers of drunk driving and the consequences it can entail. Additionally, unauthorized use of vehicles can lead to legal troubles and should be strongly discouraged. This incident serves as a reminder that responsible behavior behind the wheel is crucial to ensuring the safety of all road users.
