Tensions at the Border: Border Guard Releases Footage

Incidents at the Polish-Belarusian border continue. The Border Guard has released footage showing how migrants attempt to enter Poland.

According to the Podlaskie Branch of the Border Guard, more than 70 attempts to illegally cross into Poland were recorded in the past 24 hours, particularly near Border Guard outposts in Michałowo, Bobrowniki, Lipsk, and Płaska. Some migrants tried to cross border rivers such as the Świsłocz, Wołkuszanka, and Istoczanka.

Polish authorities report that nearly all attempts were thwarted. Additionally, four individuals are currently being pursued for apprehension. The migrants attempting to cross illegally mainly came from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia, Iran, Ethiopia, and Eritrea.

Border Guard Releases Video

The Border Guard shared a video showing a person attempting to cut through sections of the border barrier with an angle grinder. At one point, a border officer runs up to the individual and sprays pepper spray towards the barrier. Later in the video, a similar scene unfolds, again involving an angle grinder and pepper spray.

The footage also shows Polish officers being pelted with sticks. Two officers approach the border barrier and use shields to protect themselves from the attacks.

“This is just a fragment of last night’s footage. Stones were also thrown at our officers, and our vehicles were damaged. A group of about a dozen people tried to breach the barrier,” said Michał Bura from the Podlaskie Border Guard.

Experts believe the rise in border incidents is linked to improving weather conditions, which make illegal crossings into Poland easier compared to the winter months.
