The defense lawyer for Father Olszewski: “This is not a trial under international law”

This trial is not a trial under European or international law. The panel of judges is not a court under European Union law. It is a sham proceeding, intended to create the appearance of a trial for spectacle rather than to clarify anything,” emphasized one of Father Michał Olszewski’s defenders, attorney Michał Skwarzyński, in an interview with the portal Niezalezna.pl.

At 10 a.m., the trial of Father Michał Olszewski and two officials from the Ministry of Justice begins at the District Court in Warsaw. It concerns alleged abuses related to the management of the Justice Fund.

“This trial is not a trial under European or international law. The panel of judges is not a court under European Union law. It is a sham proceeding, intended to create the appearance of a trial for spectacle rather than to clarify anything,” attorney Michał Skwarzyński told Niezalezna.pl.

The lawyer representing Father Olszewski added that “today’s hearing is deliberately scheduled to cover up the lack of meaningful activity.” He emphasized that it is meant to mask the absence of real results from the current government. He assessed that the coalition’s only “spectacle” on December 13 is the matter of the Justice Fund.

He announced that in the courtroom, the defense will demand that previously submitted motions be considered, as well as clarification regarding the newly appointed lay judges, who had less than two weeks to review the extensive materials related to the trial.
