A record-breaking doctor working under a contract at one of the hospitals in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship received more than PLN 136,000 for a single month, according to information obtained by Money.pl. This was not an isolated case: seven other contract doctors also earned more than PLN 100,000 in one month.
Doctors’ enormous earnings
The controversy surrounding salaries at Warsaw’s Southern Hospital has sparked a broad debate about doctors’ earnings in public healthcare facilities. More media outlets are now revealing cases of extraordinarily high remuneration being paid at hospitals across the country.
According to information obtained by the local website ddwloclawek.pl, the highest annual remuneration paid to a doctor working with the Provincial Specialist Hospital in Włocławek amounted to exactly PLN 1,474,919 in 2025. This translates into an average monthly income of more than PLN 122,000.
How much doctors earn in Warmia and Masuria: a list of record payments
This is not an isolated case. Money.pl obtained from the Marshal’s Office of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship a list of the ten highest payments made to doctors working at 14 healthcare institutions, including provincial hospitals overseen by the regional government.
The figures represent the highest remuneration paid to one person in a single month of 2025. In the case of doctors employed under employment contracts, the amounts include base salary, payments for medical shifts, overtime and fixed allowances. They do not include, among other things, long-service awards, severance payments, annual bonuses known as the “13th salary,” or one-off bonuses.
The highest monthly gross salary paid to a doctor employed under an employment contract in Warmia and Masuria was PLN 67,232.08. The second-highest-paid doctor received only slightly less, at PLN 66,191.27.
The third-highest payment amounted to PLN 56,000.52, while the fourth was PLN 50,630.01. The remaining salaries were lower but still exceeded PLN 44,000. They amounted to PLN 47,366.06, PLN 46,681.32, PLN 46,391.74, PLN 46,386.83, PLN 44,900.85 and PLN 44,167.18 gross, respectively.
Contract doctors earn more than PLN 136,000 a month
Significantly higher amounts were recorded among doctors working under service contracts. The highest monthly payment made by healthcare institutions overseen by the Warmian-Masurian regional government amounted to PLN 136,520.32 in 2025.
The second- and third-highest payments were very similar, at PLN 123,797.92 and PLN 123,238.03, respectively. The fourth doctor received PLN 118,221.43 in one month, while the fifth was paid PLN 113,109.42.
The next payments on the list amounted to PLN 106,447.50, PLN 102,460.22 and PLN 100,450.74. This means that eight of the ten highest-paid contract doctors earned more than PLN 100,000 in a single month.
The remaining two amounts also came close to that threshold, reaching PLN 97,773.86 and PLN 97,621.82.
Civil-law contracts: the record exceeded PLN 57,000
The Marshal’s Office also provided data on doctors working under civil-law contracts, primarily contracts of mandate. In this group, the highest monthly gross remuneration amounted to PLN 57,518.28.
The next two payments exceeded PLN 51,000, reaching PLN 51,704.10 and PLN 51,200, respectively. They were followed by doctors who received PLN 36,981.53, PLN 36,833.33 and PLN 34,450 in their highest-paid month.
The amounts at the bottom of the ranking were noticeably lower. They stood at PLN 27,680, PLN 26,945.83, PLN 19,200 and PLN 18,490 gross.
