The dummy of the Eastern Shield, constructed in Wesoła near Warsaw, will be dismantled. However, under the leadership of Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, nothing in the military will go to waste… There are plans to reuse the materials from the structure. The decision was made at the highest possible level—by the General Command of the Armed Forces, based on documents from the General Staff.
Not much has been happening with the flagship project of the December 13 coalition—Eastern Shield. For now, planning work is underway. A delegation from the EU’s Political and Security Committee was invited by the Ministry of National Defence (MoD). Since there was nothing tangible to showcase, the military built a model of the project at a military unit in Wesoła, just outside Warsaw, which was then presented to the visiting delegation. Acting as a proud guide around the peculiar installation was Deputy Minister of National Defence, Cezary Tomczyk.
Demonstration Installation
The editorial team of Niezalezna.pl has received clarifications and responses from the General Command of the Armed Forces regarding the structure built near Warsaw.
The editorial team asked what the exact purpose and justification were for constructing the dummy of the Eastern Shield defence system in Wesoła. It turns out it was a “demonstration installation” related to Poland’s “successful” six-month presidency of the Council of the European Union.
“The fortification elements constructed in Wesoła constitute a demonstration installation located at the training facility of a military unit. The purpose of the construction was to showcase selected elements of engineering barriers and fortifications planned for use under the National Deterrence and Defense Program – Eastern Shield (NPOiO-TW), as part of initiatives implemented in accordance with the ‘Defense and Security’ priority of Poland’s presidency of the EU Council,” stated the press office of the General Command.
The structure – as clarified – is “for training purposes.” However, there is no information indicating that any training has ever taken place there.
According to the information provided to us, the construction was carried out by military engineering units as part of programmed training, “using materials acquired by the Polish Armed Forces under NPOiO-TW.”
Painstakingly and meticulously erected, the dummy will not be in place for long. It is to be dismantled.
“Following the dismantling, the materials used in its construction are planned to be reused for building fortification elements at engineering worksites under the implementation of NPOiO-TW,” the military informed us.
Niezależna also asked who made the decision to locate the structure in Wesoła.
“The General Command of the Armed Forces carried out the tasks in Wesoła based on appropriate documents issued by the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, in accordance with the outcomes of work by the Polish Armed Forces Task Group responsible for the organizational and substantive preparation of military initiatives under Poland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2025,” replied the press office.
Conceptual Model
The editorial team was also curious whether the structure fully reflects or at least approximates elements of any segment of the Eastern Shield.
The response is a true gem. The intention was to reflect the “conceptual model” of the Eastern Shield.
“The structure presented in Wesoła reflects the conceptual model of selected fortification development elements that have been publicly presented and encompass the concept of fortifying a border-area section extending several hundred meters from the state border. The structure showcased some of the solutions forming the foundation of the concept for border development under two of the four lines of effort defined in the program (Counter-Mobility and Protection of Troops and Civilians),” wrote the General Command.
There is one bit of consolation: there are no plans to build similar structures in the future.
